LA Kings officially announce the signing of a new head coach: former Blackhawk
Jim Hiller has been promoted to head coach, replacing Todd McLellan, who was relieved of his duties.
This strategic move aims to bring fresh energy and direction to the team as they look towards future successes.
Hiller is actively assembling his coaching team, working closely with Rob Blake to ensure the right mix of expertise and vision.
Among the new additions is former Blackhawks coach Newell Brown, a seasoned professional with a rich history in the NHL.
Newell Brown's appointment as an assistant coach marks a return to the LA Kings, where he will join the likes of D.J. Smith, Derik Johnson, Mike Buckley, and Sam Lee.
Brown previously spent two years with the Chicago Blackhawks from 1996 to 1998 before moving to the Columbus Blue Jackets. His extensive experience in the league and familiarity with various teams make him a valuable asset to Hiller's coaching staff.
Before stepping into the NHL, Brown honed his coaching skills with the Adirondack Red Wings in the AHL from 1992 to 1996.
His coaching journey began after being drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 158th overall in the 1982 NHL Draft. Brown also played in the QMJHL for the Cornwall Royals from 1978 to 1980, showcasing his lifelong commitment to hockey.
Brown's most recent role in the NHL was with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2023-2024 season. His wealth of experience and strategic acumen are expected to contribute significantly to the Kings' ambitions moving forward.
