Petr Mrazek's resurgence in the 2023-24 season was a welcome surprise for the Chicago Blackhawks.

After a disastrous 2022-23 campaign, Mrazek stayed healthy and posted a respectable 3.05 GAA and .908 save percentage in 56 games, despite playing behind a porous defense. His improved play earned him a two-year extension with the Blackhawks, solidifying his role as a bridge goalie while the team develops prospects like Drew Commesso and Adam Gajan.
The general consensus among analysts seems to be that Mrazek exceeded expectations, but concerns about his consistency remain. As the Blackhawks prepare for the 2024-25 season, Mrazek is expected to split time with Laurent Brossoit, though Brossoit's recovery from knee surgery might force Mrazek into a larger role early on. While Mrazek may eventually transition to more of a backup role, his veteran presence and experience could still be valuable for a young Blackhawks team trying to stabilize its goaltending situation.
Regarding grades, Mrazek received a range of evaluations, from a C+ to a B, with most analysts agreeing that he performed better than anticipated but still has room for improvement. If he can maintain or even slightly improve on last season's performance, Mrazek will continue to be an important stopgap as the Blackhawks wait for their younger goalies to develop.
What are your thoughts on his performance last year and the upcoming season?
