Rockford IceHogs coach Anders Sorensen isn't hoping any Chicago Blackhawks prospects get cut from training camp, but he wouldn't mind having Landon Slaggert on his roster.

«We'd be excited to have him if that's what happens,» Sorensen said.

Sorensen has a long history with the Slaggert family, coaching Landon and his brother Graham with the Chicago Mission. Sorensen's connection with Landon's father, Andy, the associate head coach at Notre Dame, also played a role in Landon's signing with Chicago.
Landon Slaggert and top prospects like Frank Nazar, Artyom Levshunov, and Drew Commesso will feature in the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase. However, Chicago's deeper lineup means most prospects will likely spend time in the AHL for further development.
Sorensen emphasized the importance of patience and development in the AHL, using Detroit Red Wings prospect Simon Edvinsson as an example. Edvinsson had a strong camp but spent more time in the AHL to hone his skills before proving he belonged in the NHL.
«There's a lot of value in spending time in the AHL,» Sorensen said. «It's a good tool for development and a competitive league to mature your game.»

Sorensen looks forward to working with this talented group of prospects, if they do trickle down to Rockford.
