The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that goaltender Laurent Brossoit will be sidelined for the next five to seven weeks after undergoing successful meniscus repair surgery on his right knee.

The procedure took place at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, and team officials, via their trainer Dr. Michael Terry, confirmed the news on Wednesday. This recovery timeline suggests that Brossoit could return around the end of training camp or the beginning of the regular season.
Brossoit, a 10-year NHL veteran with a career 2.64 goals-against average and .911 save percentage, was an off-season acquisition for the Blackhawks and was expected to bring experience to the locker room. However, his debut in Chicago's red sweater will be delayed. In the meantime, the Blackhawks are likely to rely on Petr Mrazek as the starting goaltender, with Arvid Söderblom serving as backup.
The timing of Brossoit's surgery, though unfortunate, could have been worse; an August surgery allows for a shorter absence compared to a mid-season procedure.
