Remembering Tony Voce: A tribute to a hometown hero.
Tony Voce, the former Philadelphia Flyers prospect and a celebrated figure in the world of hockey, has tragically passed away at the age of 43.
A Philadelphia native, Voce left an indelible mark on the sport, particularly during his illustrious career at Boston College where he dazzled fans with his skill and passion for the game.
Voce's journey in professional hockey began after scoring an impressive 167 points over 159 games at Boston College. In 2004, fulfilling a childhood dream, he signed as an undrafted free-agent with the Philadelphia Flyers.
While he spent most of his career in the minors, Voce's impact was profound, particularly during his time with the AHL teams, Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Grand Rapids Griffins. His most notable achievement came in 2005, when he clinched the Calder Cup, marking a high point in his career.
Despite the majority of his professional years being spent in the AHL, Voce's talent also shone through in Europe. He ventured overseas for two seasons where he played in leagues across Germany, Finland, and Austria, further showcasing his adaptability and prowess on international ice.
In 2009, Voce returned to North America, joining the Ontario Reign of the ECHL, further solidifying his legacy in minor league hockey.
