Teravainen joins Blackhawks with enthusiasm and eyes his return to the playoffs
The Chicago Blackhawks have recently reacquired winger Teuvo Teravainen, delighting fans who fondly remember his earlier stint with the team.
Known affectionately as "Turbo," Teravainen has signed a three-year contract to return to the Windy City, a move that has sparked considerable enthusiasm among the Blackhawks' faithful.
In a revealing Zoom interview with Charlie Roumeliotis, Teravainen sported a vintage Blackhawks cap, symbolizing his deep connection to the team.
Teuvo Teravainen wearing an old Blackhawks hat from 10 years ago in his re-introductory media availability over Zoom: "It's awesome to be back. When I heard they might be interested, I was, right away, very interested. I know the city, I have good memories from there. Easy decision."
His choice of headwear wasn't just a nostalgic gesture.
"Yep, I found the old hat lying around some corner, so figured to put it on," said Teräväinen, who wore it during his video conference Tuesday with Chicago reporters.
Teravainen's return is laden with significance, not least because of his contributions to the Blackhawks' 2015 Stanley Cup victory. During his rookie season in 2014-2015, Teravainen played 78 games and notched 35 points, including 13 goals.
After his initial stint, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016, where he spent the bulk of his career before making his way back to Chicago this year.
The Finnish winger also shared his aspirations for his second chapter with the Blackhawks:
"Maybe because I knew the city, I have good memories from there," he said. "I don't know, just felt it was a good path for me right now. I can join a young team, hopefully I can help them get back to the playoffs, get back to where the good teams are."
Adding to the excitement is the prospect of Teravainen lining up alongside young phenom
Connor Bedard, who has quickly captured the attention of the hockey world.
"I haven't seen him play much but of course I've seen all the highlights," Teräväinen said. "Seems like a pretty good player. Young, for sure, but hopefully I can help him get better. That would be cool to play with him."
Last season, Teravainen impressed with 53 points, including 25 goals, in the regular season, and added 6 points in 11 playoff games.
His return is timely as the Blackhawks aim to climb the ranks and re-establish themselves as contenders in the NHL.
experience and skill could be just what the team needs to energize their lineup and inspire their push for playoff glory.
