NHL mourns the loss of Gilles Leger, former Quebec Nordiques GM.

The hockey world bids farewell to Gilles Leger, the esteemed former General Manager of the Quebec Nordiques, who passed away at the age of 83.
Leger's legacy in the NHL spans over a decade of dedication, particularly noted during his transformative years with the Nordiques.
Starting his career in academia, Leger coached at St. Francis University from 1967 to 1972 before venturing into the NHL.
His journey through the ranks of professional hockey included pivotal roles in Ottawa, Toronto, and Birmingham, each position honing his skills in player development and team strategy.
Leger joined the Quebec Nordiques in the early 70s, initially focusing on player development. His keen eye for talent and strategic acumen earned him the General Manager position in 1984, a role he held with distinction until 1995.
Under his leadership, the Nordiques saw significant transformations, most notably his role in scouting and signing the Stastny brothers from Slovakia.
This move was critical in shaping the team's competitive edge during a crucial period in their history.
After retiring from the Nordiques, Leger continued his contribution to the sport, scouting for the Edmonton Oilers and the New York Rangers until 2020.
