Rebuilding an NHL team requires more than just successful draft picks, as seen in the Florida Panthers' 2024 Stanley Cup victory.

The Panthers, who beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7, assembled their roster through a combination of drafting, trades, and free-agent signings. For Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson, this approach offers important insights.
While the Blackhawks have focused heavily on drafting - selecting 30 players over the past three years, including Artyom Levshunov second overall in 2024 - Florida showed that complementary moves are crucial. Of the Panthers' 2024 playoff roster, only three players were drafted by the organization: Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and Anton Lundell. The rest were acquired through free agency or trades, including key figures like Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart.
The Panthers took gambles that paid off, and the Blackhawks can follow suit. While the draft is important, combining it with strategic trades and signings can lead Chicago back to Stanley Cup glory.
