Joey Anderson had a respectable showing with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2023-24 season, posting career-highs in goals (5) and assists (12) despite starting late in November.

His hard work, particularly in developing chemistry with Jason Dickinson, earned him a two-year contract extension. However, with a slew of offseason additions-such as Ilya Mikheyev, Pat Maroon, and veterans like Tyler Bertuzzi and Teuvo Teravainen-Anderson's place on the roster is far from guaranteed.
The Chicago Blackhawks' improved depth, especially with forwards returning from injury like Taylor Hall, could push Anderson down the depth chart, particularly onto the fourth line or even into the press box as a healthy scratch. Competing with younger players like Landon Slaggert and Cole Guttman, who have high potential, makes it more likely that Joey Anderson will struggle for regular ice time. While he could still prove valuable as a grinder and defensive forward, his offensive limitations may limit his opportunities on a team looking to raise its talent level.
Joey Anderson's defensive abilities and penalty-kill role could keep him as a viable extra forward, filling in when injuries arise. However, as the Chicago Blackhawks look to develop younger talent, Joey Anderson may have to fight harder to secure his spot in the lineup.
