Utah HC strengthens its roster: former Blackhawks goalie joins new NHL contender

In a notable move during the free-agency period, the Utah HC has bolstered its goaltending depth by acquiring Jaxson Stauber, previously part of the Chicago Blackhawks organization.

This strategic acquisition comes as Stauber finds a new home following a reshuffle in the Blackhawks' goalie lineup.

Stauber, who had been serving as a depth goalie for both the Rockford IceHogs and the Blackhawks, was in need of a fresh start.

His opportunity came following the Blackhawks' decision to send Arvid Söderblom back to Rockford and sign Laurent Broissoit, which left Stauber as the surplus goalie.

The reshuffling at Rockford also saw Drew Commesso solidifying his position, further limiting Stauber's chances.

In response, Stauber agreed to a one-year contract with Utah, although the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed by the club.

During his time with the Blackhawks in the 2023-2024 season, Stauber appeared in six games, amassing a record of 5-1-0. He posted a goals against average (GAA) of 2.81 and a save percentage of .911.

His AHL stats were equally impressive, with an 18-8-3 record, a 2.85 GAA, and a .902 save percentage across 31 games.

Notably, Stauber led all AHL goalies in scoring with 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists), showcasing his versatility and skill on the ice.

Utah HC's strategic move to sign Stauber could be seen as a smart play to strengthen their goaltending roster, ensuring depth and reliability as they head into the upcoming season.
