Chicago Blackhawks celebrate Jeremy Roenick's hockey Hall of Fame induction.

After waiting over a decade for recognition, former Chicago Blackhawks star Jeremy Roenick has finally been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Class of 2024.
Roenick, one of the most dynamic players to ever don the Blackhawks jersey, has left an indelible mark on the franchise and its fans.
His eight-year stint in Chicago was highlighted by extraordinary achievements following his selection as the 8th overall pick in the 1988 NHL Draft.
From 1990 to 1994, Roenick amassed an impressive 596 points, including 267 goals and 329 assists, over 524 games.
While Roenick's flashy style and scoring prowess captured the hearts of many, there remains an unsung hero in the shadows of Blackhawks historySteve Larmer.
Often overlooked, Larmer's contributions to the team were profound, both in terms of scoring and defensive play.
« Jeremy Roenick had a 4-year span during which he was one of the best players on the planet. For the rest of his career, he was Very Good.

Steve Larmer produced at a higher rate, for a longer time, and was an excellent defensive player. Roenick has a case. Larmer has a better one. »

Roenick's Hall of Fame induction shines a light on his electrifying career, yet it also stirs discussions about Larmer, who arguably has an even more compelling case for the Hall.
Larmer's career statistics are a testament to his consistent performance and pivotal role with the Blackhawks. Over 891 games with the team, he scored 923 points (406 goals, 517 assists) and maintained a +181 plus/minus rating.
« Well, that resume speaks for itself. And it has a lot to say. Larmer is indisputably one of the best players in the Blackhawks' long and illustrious history, a model of consistency, durability and production.

In 1,006 career NHL games (891 of them with the Blackhawks), he had 441 goals and 571 assists for 1,012 points. He won the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie in 1983 after his first of five 40-goal seasons.

He scored at least 28 goals in all 11 of his Chicago seasons, topping 30 goals in nine of them. In 140 career playoff games (he never missed the playoffs in his career), he had 131 points.

Only Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, and Patrick Kane have scored more goals in a Blackhawks sweater than Larmer. Only those three and Denis Savard have posted more points. »

As Jeremy Roenick celebrates his long-awaited Hall of Fame induction, the debate about Steve Larmer's legacy continues to resonate with those who cherish hockey history.
While Roenick's flamboyant career is now eternally recognized, perhaps it's time for the hockey world to reassess Larmer's contributions and consider him for his rightful place in the Hall of Fame.
