The Chicago Blackhawks terminate the membership of their defensemen
Among the latest changes, General Manager Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks have decided to part ways with one of their 2020 draft picks, Michael Krutil.
Drafted in the fourth round, 110th overall, Krutil was initially seen as a promising addition to the team's defensive lineup.
Described by Dobber Prospects as predominantly a defensive-defenseman with a two-way capability, expectations were high for his development.
The #Blackhawks are not expected to sign Michael Krutil to an ELC. After spending parts of his DY+1 and DY+2 in Rockford he's bounced around Europe ever since.
Krutil's journey with the Blackhawks has been marked by limited appearances; he last played in the team's system during the 2021-2022 season with the Rockford IceHogs.
Despite his physical presence and skills, he only participated in 7 games in the AHL during that time.
Following his stint in Rockford, Krutil has been playing in Europe, recently splitting his time between HC Sparta Praha, Motor Ceske Budejovice, and HC Stadion Litomerice in Czechia.
Today marks a crucial deadline for the Blackhawks. If they choose not to sign him, which appears likely, they will forfeit their exclusive rights to Krutil.
This move is part of a broader strategy by the Blackhawks to streamline their roster and manage their salary cap more effectively as they prepare for the upcoming draft and free-agency period.
The decision to let go of Krutil underscores the team's focus on flexibility and restructuring as they aim to build a competitive team for the future.
