Devils' Hischier sustained a severe skate blade injury during world champs

The team's woes were further compounded when Nico Hischier, the team's captain, suffered a facial injury while competing for Team Switzerland in the IIHF tournament.
During a high-stakes game against Team Czechia, Hischier's aggressive play led to an unfortunate incident. As he drove the puck towards the net, he lost control and collided with Lukas Dostal, the goaltender for the Anaheim Ducks, representing Czechia. The sequence led to a painful face laceration for Hischier after crashing into Czech defenders. Despite the severity of the incident, which could have been exacerbated had it involved a skate blade, Hischier was fortunate to escape with a less severe injury.

Following a quick patch-up in the locker room, Hischier's resilience shone through. He returned to the ice donning jersey number 49, replacing his blood-stained number 13, and without a nameplate, a stark reminder of the incident's intensity. His return wasn't just a show of resilience but also pivotal to his team's performance. Hischier assisted Kevin Fiala in scoring the decisive goal, leading Switzerland to a narrow 2-1 victory over Czechia.
This win has propelled Switzerland to the forefront of Group A in the tournament, amassing eight points from two regulation wins and one overtime victory. Hischier's impressive time on ice, totaling 21:54, and his critical assist underline his pivotal role in the team's current success.
This season has been a testament to Hischier's leadership and toughness, qualities that he displayed in full during this crucial match. While the Devils' season back home may not have gone as planned, Hischier's actions on the international stage speak volumes of his character and skill.
