Former Montreal Canadiens prospect is about to sign with Swedish club that made a crowdfunding to sign him

After the Canadiens decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Norlinder this summer, he became a free agent. Modo Hockey, eager to bring Norlinder back to their roster, has taken an unconventional route to secure the signing by launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise 1 million Swedish Krona (approximately $90,000).

The campaign has gained significant traction, raising more than 400,000 SEK (nearly $40,000) in just 10 hours, showing strong support from fans. However, the move also raises questions about MoDo Hockey's financial stability, as they rely on fan contributions to afford the signing.

Mattias Norlinder, 24, struggled to adapt to the North American game with the Laval Rocket in the AHL, contributing to the Canadiens' decision to part ways with him. Despite this, the Canadiens have reportedly expressed interest in extending Norlinder's contract, leaving him to decide between returning to Sweden with MoDo or staying in North America.

Norlinder's agent, Claes Elefalk, has indicated that a decision is expected soon. This situation highlights the passion of MoDo Hockey's fanbase and the challenges the club faces financially competing.
