Concerns surface for forward Alex DeBrincat and the Detroit Red Wings

The organization faces significant decisions and adjustments, particularly with star forward Alex DeBrincat, whose consistency will be under the microscope.
Alex DeBrincat, a former standout for the Chicago Blackhawks, was traded to the Ottawa Senators on July 7, 2022. He made it clear he had no long-term plans with the Senators, which led to his move to Detroit, where he signed a four-year, $31.5 million contract.
Expectations were high for DeBrincat to reignite his scoring prowess, especially given the Red Wings' improved roster.
Despite being a key player on the Red Wings' top six, DeBrincat struggled with consistency.
Initially anticipated to produce another 40-goal season, his performance dropped significantly in the latter half of the season.
He managed just one goal in 20 games, a slump that contributed to Detroit missing the playoffs. The hope was that his goals would secure more victories and a postseason berth.
Reflecting on his season, DeBrincat acknowledged the ups and downs.
"Same way as a team, a lot of ups and downs,"

DeBrincat remarked via Bob Duff of Detroit Hockey Now.
"I would have loved to have been more consistent."

This sentiment resonates deeply within the organization, which still holds faith in DeBrincat's abilities.
Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde remains optimistic about DeBrincat's potential, despite the goal droughts.
"Even though some of those stretches where he wasn't scoring, he had chances,"
Lalonde commented.
"I was not concerned."
Looking ahead, General Manager Steve Yzerman's strategy during the offseason and in free agency will be pivotal.
The addition of complementary pieces could be the key to revitalizing DeBrincat's scoring touch, ensuring he becomes the impactful player the Red Wings envisioned.
This offseason will not only define DeBrincat's future with the team but also set the course for the Red Wings as they aim to break their playoff drought and re-establish themselves as contenders.
