Blockbuster proposal emerges for Chicago Blackhawks

The proposed deal involves sending Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones to the Calgary Flames in exchange for star forward Jonathan Huberdeau.
Huberdeau, once a top producer and all-star in the Florida Panthers system under coaches Joel Quenneville and Andrew Brunette, has struggled to find his groove with the Flames. His adaptation to Calgary's style of hockey has not been smooth, leading to a potential shake-up in both teams' rosters.
Huberdeau's 8-year, $84 million contract has become a heavy burden for the Flames. However, a fresh start in Chicago, particularly alongside young star Connor Bedard, could reignite his career. The winger's stint in Calgary has seen him notch 27 goals and 80 assists for a total of 107 points in 160 games. This is a far cry from his 2021-2022 season with the Panthers, where he posted 30 goals and 85 assists in just 80 games.
For the Blackhawks, acquiring Huberdeau could bring significant offensive potential. With ample cap space, Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson could absorb part of Huberdeau's $10.5 million contract, placing the talented winger alongside Bedard to rejuvenate his play.
On the other side, the Flames would benefit from Seth Jones' defensive prowess. Jones' contract has six years remaining, with an average annual value (AAV) of $9.5 million, totaling $76 million. The Flames could save $1 million on the salary cap, a crucial consideration after the departures of key defensemen Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev.
During his three-year tenure with the Blackhawks, Seth Jones has posted 24 goals and 95 assists for a total of 119 points. He has also accumulated a -90 plus/minus rating, 282 hits, and 411 blocked shots in 217 games. Jones' reliability and defensive skills could fill the gap left by Hanifin and Tanev, providing the Flames with a solid defensive piece.
This trade, if it goes through, could solve critical issues for both the Blackhawks and Flames. Calgary would shore up its defense with Jones, while Chicago would enhance its offensive lineup with Huberdeau. The move could prove beneficial for both teams as they look to address their respective needs and improve their standings.
