18-.year old Bedard receives hate for his celebration at world champs
Connor Bedard's goal-scoring prowess in his debut season has captured attention, netting the most goals.
For any rookie and leading the Chicago Blackhawks with 22 goals in 68 games. His electrifying celebrations, however, have drawn criticism from a retired NHL veteran.
Jakub Voracek, who enjoyed a 15-year NHL career and now serves as a color analyst for Ceska Televize, witnessed Bedard's performance at the IIHF World Championship in Prague, where several Blackhawks players competed.
Voracek was present when Bedard scored two crucial goals on Sunday, tying the tournament record, but he was not impressed by the lack of celebration.
Voracek voiced his disapproval on the broadcast:
Voracek stated (on the broadcast) that he doesn't like Bedard's non-smile during goal celebrations and it's disrespect towards the opponent.
The veteran then took to Twitter to emphasize his point:
I said I don't like it. And to celebrate goal is normal. Non celebration is more disrespectful [than] to celebrate it. He is a f****** player though
Voracek believes that Bedard's subdued reactions to scoring diminish the significance of the achievement and show a lack of respect for opponents, as if scoring were effortless.
Despite Voracek's criticisms, Bedard, at just 18 years old, has demonstrated humility both on and off the ice. His composed demeanor and mature approach during post-game interviews highlight a veteran's mindset within a rookie's body. While Voracek interprets Bedard's actions as disrespectful, others view them as a testament to his focus and professionalism.
