A new study reveals the most toxic and best fan franchises in the entire NHL
The study, utilizing an "ice cold" index, measured fan intensity through various aggressive behaviors, and Blackhawks fans came out on top with a score of 96.9 out of 100.
This survey evaluated fan aggression based on several factors, including booing, cheering when players get hurt, trash-talking online, and feelings about past behavior.
Blackhawks fans were particularly notable for their high levels of aggression and unapologetic attitudes.
In the "ice cold" index, fighting with other fans was the most heavily weighted factor, accounting for 25% of the total score. Cheering for injuries and being mean, such as through trash-talking, each contributed 15%.
Additionally, not feeling bad about being mean and indifference to the other team's losses also contributed 15% each.
Booing frequently and trash-talking on social media were less significant, each at 5%, and self-assessment of behavior added the final 5%.
Blackhawks fans distinguished themselves with some striking statistics. Over 22% admitted to having fought with fans from other teams, the highest percentage in the league.
Nearly half of those surveyed confessed they didn't regret their past behavior.
The survey's findings highlight the unwavering passion and intensity of Blackhawks fans.
Avalanche fans followed in the rankings, while Senators fans were deemed the least intense, scoring just 5.5 on the index.
This study sheds light on the dynamic and sometimes controversial nature of hockey fandom.
