Nick Foligno reflects on NHL beginnings and leadership with Daniel Alfredsson.

Blackhawks' Nick Foligno takes a trip down memory lane on Locked on Senators podcast.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno recently made waves on the Locked on Senators Podcast, sharing an insightful story from his early days with the Ottawa Senators alongside former captain Daniel Alfredsson.
The anecdote, centered around a memorable shopping trip, beautifully captures the essence of his NHL initiation.
When Foligno was just 19 and new to the league, he accompanied Alfredsson to a clothing store.
There, Alfredsson, showcasing a blend of humor and mentorship, picked out three shirts, one of which sported a whopping $600 price tag.
A young Foligno, still acclimating to his NHL life and finances, could only laugh.
" I had no money at the time and just loved the fact this is what the NHL was about ", Foligno told the podcast.
This light-hearted moment highlighted not only the lifestyle changes for NHL newcomers but also the camaraderie and guidance provided by seasoned teammates like Alfredsson.
Foligno's admiration for Alfredsson is profound, as he expressed on the podcast, noting Alfredsson as the best captain he has played with in his career.
His tenure with the Senators, which lasted five seasons before moving to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2012, was formative for Foligno, who learned valuable leadership qualities from Alfredsson, qualities he aims to embody as he progresses in his own career.
As Foligno continues with the Blackhawks, under the watchful eyes of general manager Kyle Davidson and coach Luke Richardson, there's a palpable optimism about his contributions and leadership.
Last season, Foligno played 74 games, putting up 17 goals and 20 assists. The Blackhawks' strategic moves and investment in cap space this offseason are designed to bolster the roster around core players like Foligno, enhancing the team's competitive edge.
With two years left on his contract, carrying a cap hit of $4.5 million annually, expectations are high for Foligno.
The Blackhawks believe his experience and leadership will translate into even greater success on the ice as the team aims for a resurgence in the coming seasons.
This blend of veteran savvy and youthful energy, guided by Foligno's leadership, positions the Blackhawks for exciting times ahead.
