Steve Bégin's financial fall: From NHL ice to bankruptcy court.

Former NHL player Steve Bégin faces financial hardship after business venture fails.
In a startling revelation, former Montreal Canadiens forward Steve Bégin has announced his bankruptcy following the failure of his investment in a local civil engineering firm.
Bégin, who has been retired from professional hockey since 2013, shared the news on social media, openly discussing the challenges he's faced.
«The civil engineering company in which I had been proposed to invest large sums of money since 2013 has gone bankrupt, which has had a negative impact on my financial situation and consequently also caused a bankruptcy,» Bégin wrote in French. He further expressed his decision to be forthright about his situation: «I could have tried to avoid the subject, but opted to talk openly about it, as I believe there are lessons to be learned.»

In his post, Bégin reflected on the emotional toll this episode has taken on him and his loved ones.
«I find this experience very trying, disappointing, and above all hurtful for me and those close to me, but as always, I'll keep pushing forward to achieve great projects despite this ordeal.»
Bégin's NHL career spanned over a decade, during which he was known for his hard-nosed, grinder style of play.
Drafted 40th overall by the Calgary Flames in 1996, he later became a familiar face in Montreal, also donning the jerseys of the Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars, and Nashville Predators.
Despite a modest career earning of $6.7 million, his post-hockey life has not been without its financial ups and downs.
His tenure in the NHL culminated in a total of 108 points (56 goals and 52 assists) over 524 games, marking him as a dedicated but not overly flashy player whose value on the ice often transcended mere point totals.
Steve Bégin's story is a sobering reminder of the financial perils that can follow athletes after their careers, highlighting the importance of prudent financial planning and risk assessment, especially in post-retirement life.
