Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson has signed a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) with the Boston Bruins.
The 34-year-old veteran played three seasons in Chicago after being traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021. During his time with the Blackhawks, Johnson recorded 70 points, including 32 goals, across 149 games.
A two-time Stanley Cup champion with Tampa Bay, Johnson took on a leadership role with the rebuilding Blackhawks, helping guide young talents like Connor Bedard. As he joins a more competitive team in Boston, Johnson has the potential to provide depth to the Bruins' bottom six. Last season, he notched 31 points and 17 goals while averaging over 15 minutes of ice time per game.
Reflecting on his time in Chicago, Johnson acknowledged the friendships he made but admitted the experience didn't align with his original expectations. Now, as he looks for a fresh start in Boston, Johnson aims to contribute to a contending team once again.
Fans are hopeful Johnson will secure a contract and have a successful season with the Bruins.
