New assistant coach sparks debate among New Jersey Devils fans

In a move that has sparked debate among its fanbase, the New Jersey Devils have announced Jeremy Colliton as their new assistant coach. Colliton will team up with Sheldon Keefe, a former head coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as part of the Devils' coaching overhaul for the upcoming season.
This decision, confirmed by Tom Fitzgerald, the President and General Manager of the Devils, introduces Colliton who is returning to the NHL after a significant stint with the Vancouver Canucks' AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. Under his leadership, the Abbotsford team posted a 40-25-7 record and made a playoff appearance in the Calder Cup.
Colliton is perhaps best known for his time with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he stepped in as head coach amid controversy surrounding his predecessor, Joel Quenneville. Serving from 2018 to 2022, he was the youngest head coach in the NHL during his tenure. Despite a challenging period in Chicago, his coaching skills were enough to land him another role in the league.
The reaction from the Devils' fans has been mixed, with some expressing displeasure over the hiring due to Colliton's tumultuous tenure in Chicago. Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see how this coaching dynamic unfolds in New Jersey.
As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Colliton and Keefe to see if their combined efforts can steer the New Jersey Devils to success. Fans are hoping for a turnaround that justifies this controversial decision, ensuring lively discussions in sports circles.
