Chicago Blackhawks reach agreement on key coaching change
Chicago Blackhawks bolster coaching ranks with Josh MacNevin joining Rockford IceHogs.
In a strategic move to strengthen their coaching staff, the Chicago Blackhawks have appointed Josh MacNevin as the new assistant coach for the AHL's Rockford IceHogs.
Josh MacNevin, bringing a rich history both on and off the ice, is set to join the team in Rockford, Illinois, where he will specifically work with defensemen, aiming to hone their skills for professional play.
" We're excited to have Josh join our coaching staff and for his family to be part of our organization," remarked IceHogs Head Coach Anders Sorensen. "We look forward to having Josh work with our defensemen and help them take the next steps in their professional careers. "
The IceHogs announced the news via their official Twitter handle, showcasing their anticipation for the skills MacNevin will bring to the team.
Josh MacNevin's journey to the IceHogs is marked by extensive experience across various leagues.
Before his new role, he spent time as an assistant coach with the WHL's Kelowna Rockets and the Lethbridge Hurricanes, and at the University of Lethbridge during the 2013-2014 season.
His coaching insights are deeply rooted in his own successful career as a defenseman, notably with Providence College, where he played for four years.
During his collegiate tenure, MacNevin was a standout player, accumulating 86 points (20 goals, 66 assists) and 163 penalty minutes over 137 games.
His professional play was equally impressive, having been drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 1996 NHL Draft.
MacNevin's North American career was followed by a significant tenure in Europe, where he played in over 558 games across various leagues, including the AHL, EHL, and WCHL, as well as international leagues in Italy, Germany, Sweden, and Finland.
His international play included leading moments such as topping the Serie A scoring charts for a defenseman in 2003-2004, and leading the HockeyAllsvenskan in the same category during the 2009-2010 season.
With such a diverse and rich background, MacNevin's appointment is a promising development for the IceHogs' defensive lineup, offering the young players an opportunity to learn from one of the seasoned professionals in the field.
