Blackhawks welcome Rick Ball as new announcer, bringing decades of experience.
Rick Ball takes the mic for Blackhawks after tenure with Flames.
The Chicago Blackhawks have made a significant move in their broadcasting team this offseason, bringing in Rick Ball to replace Chris Vosters.
Ball, a seasoned broadcaster with extensive experience, joins the Blackhawks after a decade with the Calgary Flames, where he held a prominent position from 2014 to 2024.
His impressive career also includes roles as the Western Lead Announcer for Hockey Night in Canada from 2011 to 2013.
Before his tenure with the Flames, Ball was a familiar voice to Vancouver Canucks fans, serving as their radio announcer on Team 1040 between 2008 and 2013.
His broadcasting journey began in 1995 with the WHL's Kelowna Rockets, followed by a stint filling in for Jim Hughson with the Canucks on VTV during the 2000-2001 season. In 2004, Ball expanded his expertise to football, providing commentary for the BC Lions in the CFL.
Rick Ball's extensive background mainly in professional hockey broadcasting is evident, underscoring his veteran status in the industry.
As Ball steps into this new role, he brings not just experience but a legacy of engaging sports narration.
" I was in the last year of my contract in Calgary. I worked for the network in Canada, not with the team. They wanted me back, and I was looking forward to signing a new deal, and the Hawks reached out. It happened really quick after that. It was basically a week, and there was an offer on the tableThe last month has been chaotic as you could imagine but very exciting," the announcer noted.
One of the highlights for Ball as he transitions to his new role is the opportunity to collaborate with Darren Pang in the broadcast booth.
Reflecting on his past experiences, he expresses enthusiasm about the synergy and rapport he anticipates.
" When I went to Calgary 10 years ago, a very attractive component to that whole opportunity was working with Kelly Hrudey, and the same applies to Darren Pang. He's one of the best in the business and a great guy on top of itI can't wait to get started with him, either,» he said. "
As Rick Ball prepares to bring his voice to Blackhawks fans, the excitement is palpable both within the organization and among the fanbase.
With his deep roots in sports broadcasting and a fresh dynamic with Darren Pang, the upcoming season promises to deliver top-tier commentary, enhancing the game-day experience for listeners.
